Martin

Amazon?  No.

Shall we have a look at it?

Martin

Yep. Hang on.  Just log out… Right then you got…

Interviewer

What do you think of that then?

Martin

That’s nice and bright, you know. What you got, little bit of writing which is good, which is… Then you got a lot of colours. You got um… You can actually see that.  People can see it.

Arsenal FC!  There you go! Come on you Arsenal!

See this is, this is a shop you can go for, again like this American website, you can still get your products, but it’s just nice and bright and colourful and you know…

Interviewer

So how would you buy one of those products?  What would you do?

Martin

Um… just click into um… Type in buy new or…

Interviewer

So how would you buy that shirt?

Martin

How would I buy that shirt?  Right, if I um go to… Right…

Right, ‘pricing and availability’ of the shirt. If we go to… Ah! That’s it, yeah.

So what you do is you pick a size, just say that one. And then what you do is press ‘select’, you know, and then you got ‘price’, ‘ready to buy’.

I think it’s put an orange border around small to show you hasn’t it?

Martin

Yes, yes it has.

Interviewer

Is that helpful?

Martin

Yes it is. Yeah, cos it actually borders it round so when you click on it, or that one you know. Also it’s changed in that. It’s changed in that small one up there.

When you actually um, go on the website you actually ‘add shopping’.

Interviewer

How did you know that was the right button to press?

Martin

Because it says ‘add to shopping cart’.

If they had much more bigger writing than that, you know, because people might not be able to see that. Cos that’s not very colourful. The T-shirt is but the one on the NatWest one was very helpful cos it had different colours. But this one is just like a boring old sign. Not very interesting.

You only can see one web page but people might not understand what that says. But the one underneath is a really bad suggestion one. And which… something about shipping or something but they can’t actually see it cos it looks like it’s faded out. People can’t see you know. Cos people have got bad eyesight or something like that.

Can you tell me where you could sign into your account there?

Martin

Um… yes… the account is… there. I think that’s it. Yeah ‘shopping’… er… Well no, oh yeah, ‘sign in’ which is there, which I had trouble finding, which is here. Which you click on there. It should be a much more brighter figure, you know, because like just then I had…

Right, what you do is you go into the um like my email address which…

Ok so we’re in my amazon account now.

Martin

OK.

Interviewer

Um… can you tell me how you would log out of it?

Martin

Log out of it?  Yes, um… Log out of it. Um… the log out one is… The one you can log out from is either by going that one or that one there. Now this is really really hard to understand that… How is a person going to understand about who has got a disability, who can actually find out where to log out?

And, you know, I’ve looked all over the screen, you know and I can’t even find the exit for this one. All you can see is just like ‘thank you for choosing, and to click ordering’. You know, it’s just got… it’s just telling you about the when to click button you might see a message from the web browser and all that stuff, you know.

Interviewer

How would you go into my account if you pretended that you were me? What would you click on?

Martin

‘Your account’ which is there. I think.

Interviewer

Ok.

Martin

I think that’s the one.

Interviewer

Go on then, have a go.

Martin

Ah here we go, it says ‘payment’. ‘Pay by credit’ or…  ‘Payment’, ‘credit cards’, ‘gift’. But you can’t actually… All that says is just there…which is really awful. It just says, um, all you can see is ‘orders’, ‘payment’, ‘settings’ and ‘digital comment’ and so on so on, but you can’t actually see that writing.

With people with bad sight or something like that how are they going to… It says settings yeah ok, fair enough, they can read that, but they can’t read the one underneath where it says ‘password’, ‘prime’ and ’email’. So that is really really depressing for people.

Now have a look for where you might be able to sign out.

Oh ‘sign out’.. there you go. Oh that’s where it is! Do you want me to sign out?  Yeah?
